Bitter or Sweet?

Just reposting this photo because it goes perfect with this entry.

. . . . .

I have this aversion for the word 'paet' especially if it's used in a sentence. "Paet kaau mi karon." "Paet kaau ang kinabuhi." Paet literally means bitter. But when used in a sentence in the vernacular, it could loosely mean difficult/hard.

When I hear people say "Paet kaau among kinabuhi" especially when they say it with a lot of complaining tone in their voice, I'm sometimes so tempted to say: "Whose life isn't?"

Worse, there are a lot of people whose life isn't at all 'paet' and yet, they just love saying the word. Whatever happened to the words (or expressions) 'beautiful,' 'lovely,' 'wonderful,' 'thank heavens,' or 'thriving'? These words, I think, slide deliciously on the tongue than the word paet. I believe in the law of attraction, too. We attract into our lives the things we say, do, write, and believe in.

It's all about perspective, I guess. Because no matter how blessed we are but if we think we aren't, then yes, our life is paet. And maybe, we deserve that paet life we think we have.

And it's about making a choice, too. Happy or sad? Good or bad? Bitter or sweet? Oh, unless of course, we are talking about ampalaya and sugar in relation to diabetes. Still, I would rather have a sugar shock and die happy.

. . . . .

Anxious about another ondoy-like flooding. Heavy rains outside.

Do you want to know what paet tastes like? Put yourself in the shoes of those who lost everything (including loved ones) to Ondoy. But wait, I forgot, they do not have shoes.

Feeling better now with your fancy red shoes?

it was in the local news here, ai, that there's going to be a big typhoon again in the phils. i am really hoping and praying it won't be another ondoy.

it's true, we can choose to dwell on the good or the bad. life will always have its ups and downs, it's how we react to life's events that will spell how beautiful or miserable we will be. we can put blame on a thing or a person, but what will that do? it's better to just take something for what it is and move on to more positive things.

this is one of your most dramatic photographs ai! amazing work!

i agree with what you wrote. words have power. words are magic. so we have to choose what we say or think.

Timely! Feeling better now... after spending a lot for the hospitalization of three loved ones. Yes, they came three-in-a-row last week.

Thanks much for reminding me of how blessed I am, Ai.

I love how you put it, Jops. And I particularly love the last line. It's never easy, but you are right about moving on to more positive things. =)

Thank you, Pat. This is one of those shots we never thought would come out nice. =)

It's true, there's so much power in words, written or spoken. =)

It must have been hard on you, Badeth. *hugs* I hope they are all feeling better now.

And yes, you are very blessed. Not everyone has that privilege of being able to help or give. =)

Life is difficult indeed but it doesn't deprive us of choices. It still depends on how we make it. :)
