It was already 2am, I was in bed just about to sleep when I received an email from the production editor of a photo magazine in the UK that their April issue will come out this February. One of my macro flower photos will be featured in the magazine's gallery. Imagine my happiness. They actually already emailed weeks ago confirming the feature. Still, this email made me happy.
This may be a small thing to some people. And perhaps, this may really be just a small thing. And who knows, maybe, my photograph just occupies a minuscule space in the magazine. But this is something for me. This means a lot to me. And I am incredibly grateful!
You see, I come from a small village, in a small town, in a small city, in a small island, in a small country. There are 94 million people in the Philippines and about 7 billion people in the world and my photograph gets published in the UK. What were the odds? How can I not be grateful?
The magazine found me in Flickr. In the sea of thousands and thousands of awesome photographs there, what where the odds?
There was a moment though, in the middle of my happiness, when I felt a sudden self-doubt. "Silly," a friend told me. "A photography magazine is publishing it. A photography magazine," she stressed.
Together with the email from the magazine, I also received three more fabulous emails today. I am grateful and happy, I shouldn't entertain silly thoughts.
I can't tell you enough, my readership of five (haha), how very grateful I am.
. . . . .
I have a fabulous Flickr community. And I miss them.
