One of my favorite things this year -- iPad cases made out of recycled materials (from sticker backpaper, to be accurate). These were woven by women in Brgy Luz. They customized this for me. All I had to do was give them my size specification.
I first saw their work through my Mom who bought a document bag from them. I was impressed and was touched when I heard about their story. I love the idea of communities initiating projects like this. They are not only helping save Mother Earth, they are also improving their own lives.
Brgy Luz used to be notorious for being a "dangerous" place to visit. But since they started the Kwarta sa Basura Program, the barangay is now peaceful, families have income, children are in school. In 2009, they bested other barangays and cities in the country and won the Galing Pook Award for this initiative.
