Wealth Summit 2014.

Exactly two days before I left for my 25-day India trip last March, I attended the Wealth Summit at PICC. The summit ran for two days, plus one bonus day (which sadly, I wasn't able to attend because I had to chase after a dream). The topics were varied and inspiring. Some topics confirmed the things I already know. But I learned many new things, too. The summit, somehow, also validated that I am on the right path.

And being on the right path only means that I have to be relentless and unwavering in my commitment to make my shoe business succeed and prosper. To be steadfast in my belief that the real Shoemaker handcrafted a pair of shoes only for me, that I have to fill.

Speaking of shoe business, I met this awesome businessman who runs many successful businesses -- his name is Marco.

Marco was one of the speakers. He talked about his businesses and he spoke about one of the most successful ones -- his shoe business. I remember vividly when he said: "I make the best shoes!" And I remember saying, not very loudly though, in protest: "No, you don't!" My seatmate who knew I have a similar business laughed at my disapproval.

I decided to meet Marco after his talk. I introduced myself, shook his hand, and told him: "You don't make the best shoes. I do!" He laughed and said: "I'm sorry, did I offend you?" He sounded really apologetic, I had to assure him that he didn't. I told him, I was, in fact, really inspired by his story.

And this I must say, I really admire Marco's humility. I didn't feel any tinge of competition in his voice. Instead, he was helpful and even wished me success. He and I have become friends (we are FB and IG friends now). And he thinks (yes, he does!) that I make beautiful shoes!

More than the How-Tos  that I learned during the summit, it was the soul-enriching topics that struck me the most. Ai Ai delas Alas, for example, shared that true wealth is more than the material things you own. It is about the people in your life. It is about giving and using your wealth to become a more loving person.

Everyone who stood on that stage inspired me a lot. In between speakers, I daydreamed that one day, it would be wonderful to be up there, too, and share my story.

I also (finally!) met Bo Sanchez who was kind enough to sign my book and have a selfie with me! Note: he suggested the selfie. Haha. I have been reading him since 1999 (if I remember the year correctly). I have always loved his writing, his wisdom, his wit. Back then, I wanted to join the Kerygma team. I can't remember now where that desire to join them came from -- my love for writing (I was young and eager to share my childhood struggle) or from an immense crush on Bo (haha). But my job in the UN kept me busy then, so I settled on just gorging all those inspiring stories they published regularly.

Bo also gave talks during the summit. In one of them, he shared his Five Biggest Mistakes, which I learned a lot from.

The summit ended with Bo leading the prayer. He encouraged us to pray for the people seated beside us. It was such a beautiful, powerful moment. I felt incredibly blessed to be there.

Whoever you are and wherever you are in your life right now, I encourage you to attend the next Wealth Summit. It is life-changing. It changed mine.
